Landing in Venice in Piazza Roma at 1130am after flying from Dublin has it’s benefits and its downsides. After traveling through the night from Galway to Dublin by bus & across the Apennines on the less than comfortable Ryanair the body is ready to shut down but the senses are going crazy. Two shots of espresso and brioche con la crema are like a shot in the arm to wake myself up. The whole idea of this experiment – to spend a week researching an Italian wine tour, to explore the Venetian countryside and with a bit of luck, to come back with a group to the bel paese.
I am lucky enough to have my friend’s parents living in the Venetian lagoon. JP (not my brother) was the first one to work beside me in the original Il Vicolo. His parents Maurizio & Linda upped & moved lock & stock from New York 7 years ago. Both second generation Italian with Linda also half Irish. What a blend! Beautiful people! I remember the first Christmas after we opened in 2011, they came over for Christmas and we spent Christmas afternoon drinking Barolo & Amarone. Che vita!
