Five nights in Toscana: A luxury Italian wine tour for the discerning wine lover!
Your guide and translator Gerry will be awaiting you in Fiumicino airport with a luxury bus. From here you will be brought to the bustling seaside town in Porto Santo Stefano.
You can check in, freshen up and relax in the hotel for the afternoon, or go out and discover Porto Santo Stefano.
We will all regroup for dinner in the evening.
You will begin your day with an Italian-style breakfast at the hotel. Your driver will then collect you. Today we will explore the Chianti Classico Region in the north of Tuscany, home to the Sangiovesse grape which is the second most planted grape in the whole of Italy. We will visit a family-owned vineyard, off the beaten track, to taste some Tuscan delights.
Afterwards we will have a delicious, traditional lunch in a countryside taverna. From here, we will return to the hotel. The evening is yours to explore and enjoy as you like.
After a light breakfast at the hotel, your driver will transport you to Maremma wine region. Here you will learn how to cook like a Tuscan! Afterwards we will go for lunch in a nearby trattoria and sample some of the local wine and gastronomy.
You will be free for the afternoon to nap, explore, relax and take in the wine bars and the bustling night life of Porto Santo Stefano.
This morning you will be whisked off to the historical town of Montalcino where you will taste one of Italy’s most famous reds, Brunello di Montalcino. You will visit boutique vineyards and meet passionate winemakers from a fifth generation wine-making background. Next, Tuscan-style lunch in a local taverna in the medieval village of Montalcino. After lunch you will taste the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in one of the most breathtaking towns in Tuscany. In the evening, you will be driven back to the hotel, where you can take in the scenery of the Tuscan Hills.
Today you will be transported to the medieval town of Siena in the heart of Tuscany, where you can enjoy lunch in one of its many local restaurants. Then you will have time to discover some beautiful hidden corners of this charming town.
Next we will return to Maremma in Southern Tuscany to taste Ciliegiolo, Morellino di Scansano and the great Montecucco. The latter is a big rival to the superstar Brunello di Montalcino, and is produced in the rolling hills around the medieval village of Scansano.
At night, we will have a farewell Tuscan dinner in Porto Santo Stefano.
This will bring an end to your exclusive wine tour in Tuscany. The transfer will take you to the Rome Airport where you will take your flight back to Dublin, hopefully with a deeper knowledge of Tuscan wines and culture, and maybe even a few extra words of Italian!
